What If...?

“Jeez, man! Watch it!” I swerved my bike sideways, narrowly missing the back wheel of the bike that had just cut me up.
The rider looked over his shoulder in surprise. “Should have been looking where you were going!” He retorted and sped off.
I frowned. That was that freaking weirdo, Travis... I pedalled after him as fast as I could go. The cheeky git!
Unfortunately for Travis, the lights had just changed and I caught up with him. “Do you make a habit of just riding straight in front of someone, then?” I yelled as I drew up next to him.
His eyes widened and he went a little pink. “Uh, no.” he shook his head, “Look, I’m sorry about that. I forgot to put my glasses on this morning and I honestly didn’t spot you until the last minute – and I uh, I didn’t really mean to snap at you. It’s kind of a defence mechanism I’ve got going on.”
I was a little taken aback by his upfront and blunt apology and bit back the retort I was about to give him about being stupid... “Oh, well forget it then, I guess.”
Travis smiled shyly and glanced at me sideways. I looked back at him with interest and was kind of relieved that I hadn’t chewed him out. He was far too pretty for that this close up – and far too vulnerable-looking.
I took the time to study him. His hair was obviously longer than it looked and today it was pulled back in a ponytail. It was a warm chestnut colour when the sun shone on it and his eyes, I couldn’t help noticing, were the darkest blue I’d ever seen – and with the longest black eyelashes, too. Wow. What was it about him that had my heartbeat quickening? I can honestly say that I hadn’t noticed the way anyone had looked since Sam. It made me feel kind of scared – not least for the fact that he was considered to be quite the freakiest kid in college...

Coming Soon... The Marina #3 and #4...

“What’s Tiffany doing today? I asked.
Lyle cleared his throat, “I dunno.” He said, “We’ve uh, kind of broken up.” His face was red and he wasn’t looking at me.
“Oh,” I said. Whilst I was high-fiving myself on the inside, I wasn’t selfish enough to look pleased about it. “What happened?”
He shrugged, “Nothing, really.” He said. He looked uncomfortable, “It was just a silly argument.”
I smiled, “Well, she’ll more than likely be back in your arms by tonight, then.” I said.
He shook his head, “I don’t want her back.” He said, making my heart spike, “She’s not what I want.”
I blinked “Oh.” I said. I had nothing. I didn’t know what to say to that.
He stopped and turned to me, “She said that I care more about you than I do about her – and it’s true.”
My jaw dropped open. What was he saying? Was this the moment when all of my dreams and hopes came to fruition? Did Lyle actually love me? Best not jump in… I took a deep breath. “Okay.” I said, “What do you mean?”
He shrugged, “When she said it, I thought she was just being a bitch – she’s always been jealous of our friendship – but the more I thought about, the truer it was. I do care more about you than her – so, it’s better that we’re not together. I need a girlfriend that’s happy for me to have a really great friend.”
My heart sank. So, he hadn’t just realised that he was in love with me, then. No. Of course he hadn’t – because he was straight. Silly El Paso…
Trying and failing to look as if I hadn’t just had all of my hopes and dreams dashed, I smiled brightly at him, “You do.” I agreed. “And preferably one that likes me.”
He grinned, “I’ll be sure to introduce any prospective girls to you before I make them my girlfriend. I’m not putting up with any more shit from anyone.”
I smiled back at him. It was cute that he wanted his girlfriends to like me. I didn’t like to point out that I would probably hate each and every one of them, regardless – not because I was a horrible person or anything – just because I was horribly jealous that they were getting in his pants, when I wasn’t…

I wasn’t sure how I was going to turn up at the prom until the night. It was like that for me – some days I was Fort Worth, the boy, other days I was happier as a girl. My tuxedo would have looked dazzling, too. I’d chosen a deep navy velvet and I’d applied the diamantes on the lapels myself. It was stunning but I could use the jacket again another time – and I could always up cycle the trousers into another outfit, too. Hell, I could still wear it as a suit if the occasion warranted it...
As it turned out, I was feeling very girly on the day, so my amazing outfit that I’d made with the help of Grandma was hanging up, just waiting for me to put it on.
I was sat in front of my dresser applying my makeup when my phone buzzed. I glowed as I saw the text was from Blake.“See you at prom. Love you, xx”
I frowned. I’d have thought we’d arrive together. Most people knew we were best friends. This would just show that we’d… progressed.
I looked at my wig, which was sat on one of my head mannequins. I had a few wigs and three head mannequins that I dressed them on.
I wasn’t bothered that I didn’t have boobs to fill out the front of my dress. I liked my slim, androgynous figure. I did, however, want to look the part properly. The slits up the sides of my dress were bound to show something they shouldn’t at some point and I really didn’t want my junk hanging out, so I decided to do what all of my favourite drag queens did. I was tucking tonight…
I’d practiced – of course I had. I absolutely loved looking like a girl but it went deeper than that. When I was dressed as a girl, I felt like a girl – and that meant, while I was being girly, getting rid of the junk…
Once I’d tucked everything back and had on my tight underwear, it was time to get everything else on.
Finally, I was ready. Did I look like a drag queen? No. I looked just as beautiful as my favourite drag queen, but my makeup wasn’t quite as dramatic as the way she wore it; I could look like that if I chose to – but I had to keep a lid on it a little. This was prom, not the Met ball…
I sent Blake a text back. “Can’t wait to see you later. Love you too xx”

What If... The series so far...

“Have you seen the new teacher?” Jade, my best friend, hissed excitedly.
I shook my head, “No.” I said, “What’s he like?”
“He’s gorgeous!”she said. “Just you wait – you’re gonna blow a gasket – he’s totally your type!”
We’d established types over our four-year friendship. Her type was dark-haired and dark-eyed. I was more your redheads or blondes with green or blue eyes – not that I would rule a guy out for deviating from that of course – let’s face it, Schuyler was neither a redhead nor a blonde – but he was very definitely an auburn... “Really?” I asked, “So what makes you say he’s gorgeous?”
She shrugged, “I’m trying to broaden my horizons.” She said airily, “And you should too because this guy had darker hair than your usual choice of beau. But he’s got the cutest freckles and there’s definitely a red tinge to his hair.”
I blinked, “Really?” I asked.
“Really.” She said wrinkling her nose. "Otherwise, he’s gorgeous, mate.”
I swallowed nervously as a really awful thought hit me. She’d just described Schuyler to a T.  What with the freckles and the auburn hair…Ohhh, shit. What if it was him? What if I’d slept with my teacher last night? What was going to happen then? Would I get kicked off the course? My mind was racing but then common sense kicked back in. What were the odds? The chances of Schuyler turning out to be my new teacher were slim to say the least. I was panicking over nothing…
“Look at this.” Jade, who could change the subject in the blink of an eye was pushing her mobile phone under my nose, showing me a video that she’d made. Jade loved making short films and was really talented at them, “What do you think? Is the song choice good enough?”
I’d convinced myself that I was being stupid and was engrossed in watching her film, which was, as usual, excellent. I didn’t notice the arrival of the teacher before he called the class to attention, “Morning guys.”
I froze. That voice sounded familiar. I looked up and almost passed out with shock. Holy shit! It was him! It was Schuyler. I really had slept with my teacher last night. I was so shocked I couldn’t even speak. I wasn’t alone, however. Only half of the class managed a response. There was definitely a Monday-morning-feeling going on this morning.
Schuyler chuckled, “Are we all awake or were half of us up all of last night?”
Well, two of us were…

Coming Soon.... Riverside the Weddings - and guess who the planner is?

Dylan: I loved my job. Seriously – loved it. You might even say that I lived for it.
Zoe, my best friend and business partner and I had transformed the business in the last eighteen months from a small concern to something amazing and it was all thanks to celebrities like Robyn Reece for choosing us to do a good job.
Zoe was concentrating more on the wedding dress side of things these days and I couldn’t blame her. The brides were far less ‘bridezilla’ when they were choosing their dresses than deciding upon what the menu was going to be and how big a cake they needed – and don’t even get me started on the venues…
The only thing missing from my life was someone to share all my experiences with. I was amazing at making other people’s dreams come true but finding my own man? Well, let me tell you that my chances were less than zero – and I totally knew why, too. I was pretty much married to my job – and whenever I did meet a guy, they turned out to be frogs instead of princes...
Still, I wasn’t old yet. Twenty-four next month. Yikes. The teensiest flare of panic deep down inside threatened to have me running for the toilet but I put that down to the caterers running slightly late as opposed to worrying that my Mr Right was never going to turn up. Call me paranoid by all means…

Denial... Coming Soon...

El Paso
“Oh, my God.” I muttered as I shut the bedroom window. “Could they be more obvious?”
San Antonio and Seth were definitely getting more and more brazen. I was surprised they hadn’t been caught before now.
It was a stifling twenty-five degrees out there, which was surprising, since it was almost the end of September, and I preferred to have the windows shut with the air-con cranked up to max but Mum wasn’t a great fan of me spending all day and all night in my room and had come upstairs to ‘air’ the house.
She appeared in my bedroom doorway, almost giving me a heart attack. Usually she left me well alone… “Open that window and let some fresh air in!” she said, nodding to my window.
I bit my lip. If I opened the window, it would be all over for San Antonio and Seth – and they’d only just sorted everything out. There was just no way…
“I will in a bit.” I said, “I’ve just got the temperature in here perfect.”
Mum was in a bit of a mood, “Rubbish!” she said, marching towards my window, “I’ll do it myself!
Holy shit! She had hearing like a hawk. If she opened that window, San Antonio might as well kiss goodbye to his balls – because she’d be straight down the stairs and around to the treehouse to rip them off… “No!” I shouted, leaping off my bed and standing in front of her, “I said I’d do it. Just give me a minute!”
Maybe I’d been too hasty, or maybe Mum was having a Miss Marple moment, but she totally smelled a rat. “What are you hiding?” she asked suspiciously.
I blinked, “Nothing.” I replied, trying to look all innocent. It wasn’t me hiding anything. No doubt Seth was currently hiding the sausage but I didn’t really want to think about that right now, or ever, actually…
Mum narrowed her eyes, “Out of the way.” She demanded.
I sincerely hoped they’d finished and were now totally blissed out on each other and staring at the ceiling talking shit like they always did…
No such luck. As soon as the window was open, I could hear San Antonio and Seth as loud as anything...
Mum spun around and glared at me, “How long have you known this was going on?” she asked.
I shrugged, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I mumbled, “What’s going on?”
She came over to me and leaned down menacingly, “I’ll deal with you later.” She growled before sweeping out of my room.
I tried to send a text to San Antonio but there was no way he was going to have any inclination to read it. He was currently in the middle of what sounded like an amazing experience…
